AM:STARs Advances in Adolescent Eating Disorders (2018 Fall)
Articles on management in this issue include discussions of changing approaches to nutritional rehabilitation, the role of the adolescent health provider and nutritionist in the management of patients who are being treated with the increasingly popular family-based treatment approach, overviews of what is now known about treatment for eating disorders in partial hospitalization and residential programs, and the current role of medication management (psychopharmacology) for patients with each of the various subtypes of eating disorders.
AM:STARs LGBTQ Youth: Enhancing Care for Gender and Sexual Minorities (2018 Spring)
This issue of AM:STARs covers the health and social well-being of gender and sexual minority youth in the context of the evidence, experience, resources, and culture of today and offers guidance as to how health care providers can best care for this population. We appreciate the time, energy, and expertise that our authors have shared with us. Their work, which is showcased in this volume, provides new information and resources and promotes best practices in a continuing effort to create a culture that recognizes the dignity and integrity of a wonderfully dynamic and diverse community of youth and families.
Doody's Core title 2018
AM:STARs Obesity and Diabetes in the Adolescent (2017 Fall)
It is unquestionable that among the greatest threats to human health are obesity and diabetes, the focus of this issue of AM:STARs. What makes these 2 categories of disease unique is the importance of early and through prevention, assessment, and treatment, making them high priority areas for providers caring for children and adolescents.
AM:STARs Common Clinical Situations: A Resource for Practical Care and Exam Review (2017 April)
This issue consists of 80 questions on a wide range of topics in the field of adolescent medicine. Each question, along with the correct answer, is followed by a discussion of the pertinent topic, including why the correct answer is right and the incorrect answers are wrong. The discussions, in essence, present a brief state of the art review of different topics in adolescent medicine. This is in contrast to our usual format over the past 27 years, in which each issue of AM:STARs consisted of approximately 12 articles covering 1 theme or subspecialty area in depth. The editors hope that you as the readers find the change of pace presented by this issue to be both educational and enjoyable.
AM:STARs Youth Violence Prevention and Intervention in Clinical and Community-based Settings (Fall 2016)
This issue reviews current research on types of youth violence involvement, identifies what is known about modifiable risk and protective factors, and highlights promising approaches for health professionals to address violence prevention and intervention in their clinical practice.
AM:STARs Clinical GI Challenges in the Adolescent (2016 April)
Within these articles, you will be treated to cutting edge reviews from renowned experts. In addition to the GI and hepatology articles, we have included discussions dedicated to hot topics in nutrition, including current knowledge about vitamin D, the obesity epidemic, and the fads and therapeutic diets that are commonly encountered in adolescent practice. We believe that you will find the multidisciplinary reviews on health maintenance of the adolescent with a chronic GI disorder and the transition of care to be true resources.

Doody's Review
"This book is unique compared to other literature on adolescent and LGBTQ health in that it takes a more humanistic approach to addressing this population's healthcare needs. Other books have been heavy on the technical aspects of hormone therapy and surgical affirming surgery. This book focuses more on general clinicians' interactions with these adolescents."
-- Karyn Gerstle, MD, MPH (University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine) - Doody's Review previous edition
"This is a unique and timely review of the greatest threat to human health -- obesity and diabetes in the adolescent population. The authors highlight the importance of early and thorough prevention, as well as assessment and treatment of obesity in this age group."
-- Elizabeth Littlejohn, MD, MS (Sparrow Children's Hospital) - Doody's Review previous edition
